Operations

  • What are your hours?

Answer: We are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Where are you located?
Answer: We are centrally located at 4011 Medical Parkway, Austin, Texas (78756); 3 blocks north of Seton Medical Center between 40th and 41st Streets, two blocks west of Central Market on Lamar Blvd.

  • How long have you been there?
Answer: We have been in this same location since June 22, 1981.

Document Design

  • In which file format should I save my artwork?
Answer: PDF is the most friendly format to move files between computer systems and programs.

  • What resolution does my artwork need to be for uploading?
Answer: Best resolution for printing is 300 dpi.

  • Why do the fonts look different on my proof than what I sent you?
Answer: Programs will sometimes substitute a font for one not on the receiving system. Either send the font with the file, or change your font to “outlines” or curves.

  • What should I know about image resolution?
Answer: Color images for print should be at least 300 dpi. Black and white line art should be crisper if created as 600-1200 dpi. Images for internet or web use are usually not suitable for printing because they are low resolution (72 ppi) for faster uploading.

Printing & Processing

  • What is CMYK printing?
Answer: CMYK printing is named for the 4 colors of ink used to produce a color image — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and blacK. It is also called 4 color, full color, and process color printing.

  • What is digital printing?
Answer: Digital printing is any printing technology (laser printer or inkjet printer) that is capable of producing printed materials directly from a computer file. Digital printing eliminates the mechanical steps used in conventional printing and does not require an intermediary medium such as film, or an intermediary machine, such as a plate maker.

  • What is “on demand” printing?
Answer: Digital printing is growing in popularity because last-minute revisions and corrections can be made at minimal cost without requiring much setup. Because it allows a company to print professional quality brochures, personalized direct mail, labels, reports and manuals on an as-needed basis, digital printing is sometimes referred to as “on-demand printing.”

  • What should I know about color printing and proofs?
Answer: If you are viewing the proof on-screen, you are looking at the RGB color spectrum (Red-Green-Blue). The colors will change when viewing a printed proof as printing is done in CMYK mode (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black). Proofs printed on different pieces of equipment will also vary due to several factors: ink vs. toner, paper quality, and heat/humidity if printed on a laser printer.

  • Why do certain colors look different after they print?
Answer: Due to variations in light, monitor calibration, substrate upon which it is printed, and whether ink or toner was used to make the print.

  • What is your production time?
Answer: We allow one day for each department (prepress – proofing – print production – bindery), but if you need your order sooner, just let us know, and we’ll accommodate your schedule to the best of our ability. Otherwise, allow one day for initial setup, one day for proofing, one day for printing, one day for bindery work. If your order does not need the services of a department, your delivery time is shortened.

  • How do I re-order a document?
Answer: Please call 512-459-1339 and speak to one of the Customer Service Representatives, or send a request to info@mpprint.net.
